The record for downhill speed skiing by a blind person has been
broken by a 34-year-old ex-soldier from Dartford.
Kevin Alderton broke the record within his time of 100.94mph at
Les Arcs in France. During the record-breaking run he received guidance
via a radio receiver in his helmet.
He had his eyes eyes gouged by a gang eight years ago when he tried
to stop them attacking a woman. Kevin's view is that disability
is no barrier to achievements and after his record-breaking ski
his aim was to inspire other people to do things they wouldn't normally
do.
For the future, Kevin has been selected for the Great Britain Adaptive
Ski Team Development Squad and also hopes to compete in the 2008
World Championships and the 2010 Paralympics in Canada.
